WORCESTER — The Fitchburg Warriors recently captured the gold medal in the Mass. Senior Games.
The undefeated Warriors played in the Over-60 division, beating the Hingham Hawks, 7-1, and the Bourne Buzzards, 4--2. In the final game the Warriors defeated the strong Rusty Blades team, of Worcester, 5-1.
A strong effort by all 15 players led to their undefeated status. Most of the Warriors play in the Fitchburg Oldtimers Hockey League at the Wallace Civic Center at Fitchburg State University.
The Mass. Senior Games was established in 1991 as an Olympic-style athletic competition for older, active adults. This is the third year the Warriors have participated in these games.
